पुरुष क्रिकेट से पहले वर्ल्ड रिकॉर्ड बना, गुमनामी में खोने वाली महिला क्रिकेट की गाँधी/ Women's cricket's Gandhi loses in oblivion, creates world record before men's cricket

किसी भी क्षेत्र में महिलाओं को शायद उतना सम्मान नहीं मिलता है जितना कि मिलना चाहिए, जबकि महिलाएं पुरुषों से कहीं ज्यादा अच्छा प्रदर्शन कर सकती है. यही हाल क्रिकेट के अंदर भी है. महिला क्रिकेटर को उतना सम्मान नहीं मिलता जितना मिलना चाहिए। आज ऐसा ही वाकया आपको सुनाने जा रहे है जो कि आज से 21 साल पहले हुआ और भारतीय क्रिकेट के इतिहास में एक रिकॉर्ड बना. उससे पहले महिला या पुरुष दोनों में ही ऐसा कोई रिकॉर्ड नहीं बना था.

दिन था 26 जून 1999, भारत और आयरलैंड की महिला टीम के बीच इंग्लैंड के मिल्टन केयन्स के मैदान पर कुछ ऐसा हुआ कि क्रिकेट प्रेमियों ने सोचा नहीं था. भारत ने टॉस जीत कर पहले बल्लेबाज़ी चुनी और भारत के लिए सलामी बल्लेबाज़ के तौर पर मिताली राज़ और रेशमा गांधी उतरे और सबसे चौकाने वाली बात यही थी कि ये इन दोनों का डेब्यू मैच था. मिताली राज़ उस समय मात्र 16 साल की थी और रेशमा गाँधी 24 साल.

रेशमा और मिताली की जोड़ी ने उस मैच में दोनों ने शतक बनाया और ऐसा करने वाली वो विश्व की पहली सलामी जोड़ी थी और भारत के डेब्यू मैच में शतक बनाने वाली रेशमा गांधी पहली बल्लेबाज़ बनीं। उस मैच में रेशमा गाँधी ने सबसे पहले अपना शतक पूरा किया था रेशमा ने 104 रन की नाबाद पारी खेली थी और मिताली ने भी नाबाद रहते हुए 114 रन बनाये थे.

इस तरह से वह पुरुष और महिला क्रिकेट दोनों में डेब्यू वनडे में शतक जड़ने वाली पहली भारतीय बनी थी। मिताली ने उनके बाद शतक पूरा किया था। भारतीय पुरुष टीम की तरफ से केवल केएल राहुल ही अपने डेब्यू वनडे मैच में शतक लगा पाये हैं। उन्होंने 11 जून 2016 को जिम्बाब्वे के खिलाफ हरारे में नाबाद 100 रन बनाकर यह उपलब्धि हासिल की थी। मिताली और रेशमा ने उस मैच में पहले विकेट के लिये 258 रन की अटूट साझेदारी की थी। यह तब महिला क्रिकेट में पहले विकेट के लिये नया रिकार्ड था जो नौ साल तक उनके नाम पर रहा था। भारत ने यह मैच 161 रन से जीता था जो उस समय भारत की रनों के लिहाज से सबसे बड़ी जीत थी।

मिताली राज़ इसके बाद भारतीय महिला टीम की मुख्य खिलाड़ी बन गयी. यहां तक की उनको भारतीय महिला क्रिकेट टीम का सचिन तेंदुलकर तक की उपाधि दे दी गयी थी. उन्होंने दस टेस्ट मैच भी खेले जिनमें 214 रन की एक पारी भी शामिल हैं। वह अब तक 209 वनडे मैच खेल चुकी हैं और दुनिया की एकमात्र महिला क्रिकेटर हैं जिन्होंने 200 से अधिक एकदिवसीय मैच खेले हैं। यही नहीं मिताली के नाम पर वनडे में 6888 रन दर्ज हैं जो कि विश्व रिकार्ड है। उन्होंने ये रन 50.64 की औसत तथा सात शतक और रिकार्ड 53 अर्धशतकों की मदद से बनाये हैं। मिताली 50 या इससे अधिक अर्धशतक लगाने वाली दुनिया की एकमात्र बल्लेबाज हैं। मिताली राज ने अपने करियर में बीच में लगातार 109 मैच खेले जो कि विश्व रिकार्ड है लेकिन आज से ठीक 21 साल पहले उनके साथ कैंपबेल पार्क में अपने करियर का आगाज करने वाली रेशमा गांधी केवल दो अंतरराष्ट्रीय मैच ही खेल पायी।

दरअसल रेशमा गांधी विकेटकीपर बल्लेबाज थी और डेब्यू मैच में भी वो इसी भूमिका में खेली थी, लेकिन उस समय भारतीय महिला क्रिकेट टीम में अंजू जैन के रूप में एक शानदार और अनुभवी विकेटकीपर बल्लेबाज़ था और इंग्लैंड के उस दौरे में जब अगला मैच मजबूत इंग्लैंड टीम के खिलाफ मुकाबला हुआ तो अंजू जैन की टीम में वापसी हो गयी और रेशमा गाँधी को टीम से बहार जाना पड़ा. मिताली अपने अगले दो मैचों में चार और शून्य रन पर आउट हो गयी। तीसरे मैच में उनकी जगह रेशमा को विशुद्ध बल्लेबाज के रूप में उतारा गया लेकिन वह सातवें नंबर पर बल्लेबाजी के लिये आयी। रेशमा ने नाबाद 18 रन बनाये जो उनकी आखिरी अंतरराष्ट्रीय पारी साबित हुई। घरेलू क्रिकेट में रेलवे का प्रतिनिधित्व करने वाली रेशमा ने अपने करियर में लिस्ट ए के कुल 13 मैच में खेले जिनमें 38.42 की औसत से 269 रन बनाये जिसमें एक शतक और दो अर्धशतक शामिल हैं।

अगर ये कहे की जैसे भारतीय पुरुष क्रिकेट टीम में महेंद्र सिंह धोनी के आने के बाद से दिनेश कार्तिक , पार्थिव पटेल , नमन ओझा जैसे काबिल विकेटकीपर बल्लेबाज़ों को भरपूर या पूरे मौके नहीं मिले, वैसे ही रेशमा गाँधी के साथ हुआ जो कि एक प्रतिभावान क्रिकेटर के लिए गलत है. क्योकि वो बहुत मेहनत करके टीम में अपनी जगह बनाता है और फिर अच्छा प्रदर्शन करने के बावजूद उसको टीम से निकाल दिया जाये तो इससे गलत कुछ नहीं होता है. क्योकि भारत की 130 करोड़ जनसँख्या में 11 खिलाड़ियों में जगह बनाना ही बहुत बड़ी बात हैं.

The lady cricketer does not get as much respect as he should. Today, you are going to hear a similar incident that happened 21 years ago and created a record in the history of Indian cricket. Before that, there was no such record in both men or women.

The day was June 26, 1999, between india and Ireland's women's team on the grounds of Milton Kenyans in England, something that cricket lovers had not imagined. India won the toss and elected to bat first, and Mithali Raaz and Reshma Gandhi landed as openers for India, and the most shocking thing was that it was the debut match of the two. Mithali Raaz was only 16 years old at that time and Reshma Gandhi was 24 years old.

The duo of Reshma and Mitali scored a century in the match and was the first opener in the world to do so and Reshma Gandhi became the first batsman to score a century in India's debut match. In that match, Reshma Gandhi was the first to complete his century, Reshma had played an unbeaten 104-run stand and Mithali too remained unbeaten and scored 114.

In this way, he became the first Indian to score a century in the debuts ODI in both men's and women's cricket. Mitali had completed a century after him. On behalf of the Indian men's team, only KL Rahul has been able to score a century in his debut ODI match. He achieved this feat by scoring unbeaten 100 in Harare against Zimbabwe on June 11, 2016. Mitali and Reshma had an unbroken partnership of 258 runs for the first wicket in that match. It was then a new record for the first wicket in women's cricket which had been in his name for nine years. India won the match by 161 runs, which was the biggest win in terms of India's runs at that time.

Mithali Raaz then became the main player of the Indian women's team. She was even awarded the Indian women's cricket team title till Sachin Tendulkar. He also played ten Test matches, including an innings of 214 runs. She has played 209 ODI matches so far and is the only female cricketer in the world who has played more than 200 ODI matches. Not only that, in the name of Mitali, ODI has recorded 6888 runs which is the world record. He has scored these runs with an average of 50.64 and seven centuries and a record 53 half-centuries. Mitali is the only batsman in the world to score 50 or more half-centuries. Mithali Raj played 109 consecutive matches in his career, which is a world record, but just 21 years ago, Reshma Gandhi, who started his career at Campbell Park, was playing only two international matches.

In fact, Reshma Gandhi was the wicketkeeper batsman and played in the same role in the debut match, but at that time the Indian women's cricket team had a brilliant and experienced wicketkeeper batsman as Anju Jain, and in that tour of England, when the next match was fought against a strong England team, Anju Jain's team returned and Reshma Gandhi had to go out of the team. Mitali got out on four and zero runs in his next two games. In the third match, Reshma was replaced as a pure batsman but he came to bat at the seventh. Reshma made an unbeaten 18 run which proved to be his last international innings. Reshma, who represents Railways in domestic cricket, played in a total of 13 list-A matches in her career, scoring 269 runs at an average of 38.42, including a century and two half-centuries.

If it was said that since Mahendra Singh Dhoni's arrival in the Indian men's cricket team, capable wicketkeeper batsmen like Dinesh Karthik, Parthiv Patel, Naman Ojha did not get a lot of chances or full chances, so did Reshma Gandhi, which is wrong for a talented cricketer. Because he works hard to make his place in the team and then he is thrown out of the team despite performing well, it does nothing wrong. Because it is a great thing to make a place among 11 players in India's 130 million population.
